Facebook Experiment

Facebook Experiment

The Facebook experiment I started exactly one year ago ended almost ended yesterday. I decided to delete my account because of Facebook’s privacy policy. It’s just ridiculous, far beyond common sense and I really don’t see a reason for accepting something that stupid.

The afaik only option offered in the Facebook UI is to deactivate the account in which case it is suspended until you log in again. However, a quick search for “delete facebook account” led to a (Facebook) page that provides a link through which an account can be scheduled for deletion within 14 days. After I accidentally reactivated the account two times, I finally requested deletion today.

I hope that they really delete my data instead of storing them forever. But as Facebook does not have to comply with such strict provisions of privacy law as we do in Germany, they can do virtually anything with my information. It’s not about what I disclosed, it’s about to whom I was connected with.

But well. It just was an experiment :)
